Δ Aurigæ
Δ Aurigæ deals with the aspects of acceleration, perspective, relativity and divergence. The main inspiration for DEPART was the constellation “Auriga” that can be seen in the northern hemisphere on clear and moonless winter nights. They see it as a symbol for a leap in the dark, departures to distant shores and pastures unbeknownst, the search and desire for suspense and fresh experience. A world populated by meanders and monoliths, meteors and menhirs.
Δ Aurigæ was conceived by DEPART especially for sound:frame 2011 and is a hybrid between installation and performance, a kind of stage with a life of its own. In idle mode it shows a slow and majestic flow like a glacier, where fringes blur and relations vanish.
When DEPART perform and therefore wake it from its slumber, they spark a complex and fascinating display of fireworks.

DEPART
Leonhard Lass and Gregor Ladenhauf are DEPART. Their joint efforts oscillate triangularily in the space stretched between the coordinates teXt, Ymage and Zound.
Their works range from interactive installation pieces to netbased applications, performances and AV live shows.
With their personal approach to multimedia, DEPART create unique moments that are coined by a formally rigorous and profound aesthetics. They unite precision and emotion in an abstract and multi-faceted discoball to mirror fragments of the audiences’ experience.
DEPART have a clear goal: to leave you with an immediate, yet timeless mark.

rheo: 5 horizons
rheo: 5 horizons is an audiovisual installation composed of 5 flat-panel-displays and 5 multi-channel speakers. Each vertically long imagery pairs with each mono channel sound and each video is synchronized with each audio. By being synthesized with the move of the image, the sound source position of the sonic direction and drive are indicated by the behavior of the imagery. It provides space to rediscover sonic movement, position and the relation between ego and sound. These resonances have an impact on sensory perception, which is developing a similar synaesthetic experience. ”rheo is derived from Greek and means ¹flow, current, stream‘; all things flow, everything runs and does not stay in the same place – which seems to be the same but in fact never is. We will find beauty and life, the being, in this flux. Then the nature of things will lurk in such an alteration. The impressive audio:visual compositions of Ryoichi Kurokawa bring visual and sonic materials together, using a completely revolutionary perspective. His language – a new international benchmark in the world of digital art – his field recordings and his computer-generated structures coexist in harmony and open the gateway to an imaginary world where complexity and simplicity alternate and combine in a strange symbiosis.

Nemore
Nemore is a garden, consisting of 36 bendable graphite poles reacting to its neighbours only—and to the visitor, who acts as an alien neighbour. Each pole has a distinct sound that builds up a chord, fluctuating in resonance with the movement. Does a system arise from the poles behaviour that is perceived as angst, curiosity, nervousness, …?

“Journeying through Nemore, its poles come alive, wailing in dissonant harmony their own strange life song. They reflect my own sense of alienation with a brittle fragility, somehow still flexible enough to bend in constant changeable patterns.

A gentleness in this hostile landscape invites to enter and explore, inspires curiosity mingled with caution. Nemore invites stillness, the moving visitor agitates the garden, like a nervous system in fight-or-flight-mode.” (Susan Kempster)

fishing for compliments
fishing for compliments are Jan Bernstein, Max Kickinger, Woeishi Lean and Sebastian Neitsch. They work in kinetics, interactive-, media- and sounddesign and for: Ars Electronica, Node Forum, Expo Shanghai, Technikmuseum Berlin, Paraflows 09, Modern Art Museum Santralistanbul, Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt among others.

Susan Kempster
Susan Kempster works as a dancer/performer in Sydney, New York, Madrid and Barcelona and teaches contemporary dance and improvisation. Her choreographies have been performed in England, Chile, the Czech Republic and Spain and she won first prizes at competitions in Madrid and Burgos.

annaeins
Anamorphosis has been popular among artists of the past few eras to communicate in code or to simply baffle the audience. Length-wise anamorphosis is a method, used in central perspective, that adresses an image’s way of production and thereby promotes the processuality of art. By setting observer, perspective, space and especially perception in a different context, it challenges to take part in the creation process. A strong spatial object creates a fictitious space. The observer can decide whether he wants to experience, scrutinize or have the object evolve, becoming his own essential part of the performative emergence of a ficticious object in space.

Unlicht
The cooperation unlicht was founded in 2009 by the light artists lichterloh consisting of Christoph Schmid and Clemens Guertler and the architectural community unheilbar architektur including the designers Szabolcs Petöfi und Clemens Guertler. The unlicht designers are trying to establish a very clear design vocabulary in lighting, construction and materiality and have already demonstrated their abilities on a national and international level through numerous projects.

«Project 1051»
Transforma teamed up with the hip-hop group La Caution to create a collaborative project inspired by Paris and Berlin. Thus Transforma created two characters, each made of materials particular to the cities. Each “costume” was sculpted and shot in its specific location, while La Caution created a sound work, made of urban-recorded footage, giving a “voice” and unique identity to both characters. The figures follow a common but distinct choreography to finally meet in the acoustic space of their interactions.

Transforma
Transforma is an artist group consisting of Luke Bennett, Baris Hasselbach and Simon Krahl. Their focus is on video, performance, installations and music/video collisions. Transforma collaborates with other artists and musicians to create pieces that blur the borders of established genres in live performance, art & music.

La Caution
La Caution is a French hip-hop duo consisting of the two brothers Hi-Tekk and Nikkfurie. Due to the maturity and the unique identity of their sounds, they are one of the most interesting bands, combining all kind of music in the French scene.

Body Trail
Body Trail is a black-and-white documentary featuring an outdoor performance by Willi Dorner that took place in Vienna in October 2007. Playing with eeriness, produced by long static shots of empty building entrances, parks at night and desolate telephone booths, it plays with eerie feelings. However, what seems to be a city used as a crime scene at night, turns out to be a scene by the choreographer, who modifies urban space by adding a group of dancers as human sculptures.

“The body is a tool for experiencing spatial dimensions. Body sculptures, that change and adapt to the environment create new perspectives and insights into architecture and the city – a conceptual filling of empty urban spaces.” (Willi Dorner)

Dorner’s multi-layered urban intervention alternates between surreal humor and dark visions of terrorist acts. Its dynamic and movie-like clarity is a result of sharp editing and atmospherically precise sound created by Michael Palm.

Willi Dorner
Among other things, Willi Dorner studied, dance therapy as well as modern dance and contact improvisation in Austria, the USA and France. Since 1988 he has been performing with his own choreographies since 1988 at national und international festivals as well as numerous theatres. 2003 he shot the film “mazy” with video artists Norbert Pfaffenbichler, Johannes Hammel and Michaela Schwentner, releasing it in Graz at Diagonale.
